Treat Your Hair with Love

Hair is Alive

We live in a world that frequently judges people based on their looks, especially the state of their hair. Unfortunately, many overlook the beauty found in natural textures and styles. I want to emphasize that there is no such thing as "bad hair". Every strand is a part of who you are and deserves one essential ingredient: LOVE!

“Your hair tells a lot about you. Make sure it’s telling the right story.”

Even on days when my hair is a bit wild, it still serves as a crown that emanates elegance, even if it’s not perfectly styled. Many believe that talking to your hair with love and kindness can lead to an inch of growth each day. It may sound far-fetched, but I’ve personally tried this method and can assure you it works because hair is a living entity that grows. Of course, my nightly conversations alone didn’t magically transform my hair into long, healthy, and shiny curls; it was also about the consistent steps I took to understand the nature of this living organism we call hair.

3 Steps for Healthier Hair

Step 1: Familiarizing Yourself with Your Hair

Understanding your hair is akin to reconnecting with someone you've known for years but haven't seen in a while. This is the perfect opportunity to explore what type of hair you possess and discover what works best for it. Hair comes in various forms, but developing a personal relationship with your own makes all the difference. One way I spend quality time with my hair each night before bed is use DevaCurl detangled and by gently brushing it with my favorite boar bristle hair brush while affirming positive thoughts like "Your strands are strong, healthy, and shiny," "You grow more vibrant every day," and "I appreciate my hair just the way it is."

Step 2: Understanding Your Hair

Now that you’ve reconnected with your hair, it’s time to explore which techniques suit it best. Personally, I apply oil to my hair every three weeks, using argan oil and leaving it in overnight. When I put the oil on, I utilize a scalp bottle and spend up to 30 minutes massaging my scalp, giving my hair some extra love. While applying the oil, you can also recite affirmations like “this oil will work wonders for my hair and I cherish my hair. I have been doing this to my hair for 4 months now and my hair as improved with less breakage and more shine.

This realization has shown me that nobody else shares my exact hair type; even if billions of people fall under categories like type 2c or 3a, my unique hair doesn't reflect anyone else's views. My hair isn’t just a part of me; it's an integral aspect of my identity, and I will choose how and when to style it. If I opt to leave my hair as is, that's completely okay my hair embodies beauty in its own right!
